The Post Baccalaureate Certificate Program in Dance (PBC)
Advanced Study in Performance and Choreography
The post baccalaureate certificate in dance is designed to address the needs of a range of students. It is a great choice for students who find themselves in-between graduate school and the professional field of dance. Many students find that after their undergraduate study, they need some time to focus on their choreographic and performance portfolios to prepare for jobs, graduate schools or fellowship opportunities. This non-residential program prepares students for advanced-level work through direct exposure to visiting artists/choreographers, performance opportunities and extended international study projects.
As students prepare for a professional career in dance, the PBC offers time and support for important considerations of career choices. The program is ideal for international students who want to immerse themselves in a mature work environment that has a direct relationship to choreography and performance.
The coursework combines mentored studio practice, special topics and visiting artist series of the M.F.A. program with the formal course work of the advanced undergraduate program. Students would be required to complete 32 credits of study. These credits may be earned through a combination of terms (fall, spring or summer) Students would begin by spending one summer at the ADF combined with a year residency at Hollins University. Students in the PBC are also eligible for international extended study programs provided by the M.F.A. program in the spring term. In 2008, students traveled to Vienna and Brussels.
Note: Completion of the PBC does not guarantee admission to the M.F.A. program.
