For
my senior Thesis, I wanted to combine my choreographic and artistic
work with my strong belief in giving back to my community. Finding a
way to bridge my creative projects to the world outside Hollins became
my challenge. My work in the summer with children at Apple ridge Farm
became an important inspiration that helped to shape the project. I
wanted to reconnect with the children and extend my project by providing
a Saturday Children’s Dance Workshop.
During the Workshop’s, along with fellow Hollins students, we
offered classes throughout the fall and spring for kids of different
ages and levels, teaching various styles and techniques. We worked together
to shape a spring concert as a showcase. A great deal of work and shared
responsibility went on behind the scenes which including transporting
the children to and from their homes to classes and rehearsals. It was
a tremendous challenge. I would like to thank Symphoni, Naomi, Harmony,
Boochi, and Emily…for without their consistent help this project
would never have made it!
