Hollins University BA/BFA in Dance

Undergraduate students learn to think of dance as a dynamic form, full of possibilities for growth and innovation. Members of the Hollins dance community are encouraged to discover, refine, and celebrate who they are as artists. With an emphasis on transdisciplinary study, the program aims to support a wide variety of student interests by offering outstanding technique classes, an international visiting artist roster, and extensive opportunities to perform and craft. Students are constantly preparing for or are in the midst of performance.

Hollins is proud to be the home of the Hollins Repertory Dance Company (HRDC), made up of undergraduate dance majors, which had garnered national attention for its imaginative, energy-filled performances. The Hollins Repertory Dance Company gives students the opportunity to perform on a professional level with gratifying results.

Hollins Repertory Dance Company

HRDC began under the direction of Donna Faye Burchfield. Previously named Moveri, the student company changed its name to better express the company's dedication to the creation, performance and preservation of work by both company members and guest artists. The group meets every Friday afternoon of the academic year to share work informally. Questions are raised and ideas are discussed as the conceptual, perceptual and bodily considerations that shape the work are considered.

The company's work has consistently garnered national recognition. HRDC has been privileged to perform at Regional American College Dance Festival Gala Concerts and National ACDF Kennedy Center Concerts.

HRDC is the first U.S. student group to twice travel to France to attend the International Cannes Festival de Danse ('99, '03).

HRDC has established a reputation as a dynamic and innovative force. The group has also shown work at Aaron Davis Hall, Harlem; the Merce Cunningham Studio, NYC; Long Beach, California; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Missoula Montana; and Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania.
